Day 39: Racoons...

So turns out I did get to see Big Sur!
So turns out I did get to see Big Sur!

After yesterday’s entry, Jullian, the french-canadian arrived at camp. The new German couple and us made dinner together and called it an early night.

But wow there were some very strange creature noises all around the tent all night. When I got up the following morning, the place was destroyed. Racoons got into one of Jullians bags and tore everything apart and ate all the food. His bike and bags were an absolute mess. We then noticed there was a towel left on the table overnight, and there was what we think is a coyote paw print on it. Pic attached, could someone who knows what they are talking about confirm?

Thought today would be a 100+km day but Jullian “found” a campground at about 70ish kms so we aimed for this. Cycled through mostly flat arid landscape all day with Mexican workers tending the miles and miles of strawberry fields. Only 2 real hills today which I didn’t walk any of which is a first.

Was about 4.30 when I landed at the “campground” only to realize that they under no circumstances take tent campers. They will only accept fully self contained RVs. Was even willing to pay for an RV spot but no joy. Fuck. Felt too late in the day to cycle to the original campsite idea. So unfortunately it is a Motel again tonight. This is getting too common and I need to cut this motel crap out.
