Day 48: A great warm showers host

After saying final goodbyes to my awesome hosts in LA, it was time to hit the road again. Was initially aiming for San Clemente but after an hour or so on the bike, one of the WarmShowers hosts I reached out to get back to me. So I have a place to sleep tonight. Great! So it was a slightly shorter day. And I didn’t meet my host Zack until 6pm so there was no panic.
First 15 km or so on LA streets, and was happy when this finished. The next section was along bike paths and then along the coast for the remainder.
While stopping for coffee, a cyclist, Dave, started up a convo with me and he ended up escorting me for 10 kms or so. Love when this happens. The chats on the bike with strangers make the miles fly by.
I met my WarmShowers host, Zack, around 6pm. Zack is a super chill guy who was not long back from a bike trip down in Baja. Zack cooked up a feast of tacos, which we brought out in front of the apartment and enjoyed in front of a campfire in the front yard, where a friend of his called Frank joined us. My job was starting the fire which I struggled to do so we resorted to using lighter fluid, which is definitely cheating, and I feel bad about it. The idea was to eat tacos in front of the fire while handing out candy to trick or treaters. No trick or treaters passed us so we mostly handed out a mix of tacos and sweets to adults that passed us! But the great conversations were free flowing. Felt like hanging out with friends I have known for years. Zack even gave me advice for Baja as well as a couple of contacts down there too! Thanks for an awesome host Zack!
