Day 60: sand and more sand

Back on road after a couple of rest days
Back on road after a couple of rest days

After yesterdays entry, I caught up with Marcus (NZ) and Blake (USA) over dinner. They are staying in same hotel tonight but they were on the Baja the last few days, the days I shortcut via the main road.

Was good to catch up and stragatize the next few days. Friday we can not cycle due to the Baja 1000 race so made plans on where to take the rest day. Also realized during the Convo that I had the wrong GPX file. There was an update to the GPX route that was not on my map. This would be relevent for the next few days. But I decided I couldn´t be bothered to put the updated route on the Garmin, as was such a pain the first time so decided I will just navigate with my phone for 2 days.

The day was pretty short. Only about 40 kms. Inital section was on a dirth path next to the main road for 10km. The remaining 30 km was relatively flat… But… So much sand. Probarbly the worst sand of the trip so far. So still quite a lot of pushing the bike.

Gave out a bottle of water to some random Mexican on a bike that looked like he needed it more than me. A couple of hours later, someone in a track gave 2 bottles of Gaterade, 2 bottles of ice water and a bag of chocolate peanuts to Blake who was only a few hundred meters ahead of me so we shared them. Guess the Karma came back around.

At basically the end of the day, the 3 of us stopped at a Fish tacos place on the coast. Could see fishermen fishing with polls on the coast, putting their catch in a bucket, and then walking to the restraunts to sell them. Couldn’t´t have been fresher.

Decided to wild camp a km or so away. Setup a camp fire. Also I had one of my emergency meals. Not because the was any emergency, but because I can not see myself using them and in a real emergency I wouldn´t be able to heat the water to use them.

Tomorrow should be a shortish 40km, followed by a rest day. However, after this things get harder and more complicated with limited resupply. Also seems like there will be no ATMs for 12 plus days so might need to backtrack on the road a little to find an ATM either tomorrow or during rest day.
