Day 65: To skip a section of the Baja divide or not?

Great 11 hour sleep. Was going to make the joke about sleeping more than cycling but I believe I have made this joke before. Is getting hard to keep track.

Good cycling today in off-road conditions, much the same as yesterday. However, I went out to a main road as the map said that was a limited food resupply place but it was closed. In that moment of weakness, I decided to take the highway for the last 20 km to Catavina rather than going back off-road.

Cataviña is a small town. I stopped at the cafe and noticed Blake’s bike outside it. Blake just arrived a little before me. Apparently Marcus continued cycling into last night and has already begun the next section. Crazy! Had 2 options for where to stay in this town. We decided to split a room in the fancer hotel rather than risk the other shitty looking but cheap run down place.

One of my front cages was very loose so took the opportunity to tighten any loose bolts and then caught up on 2 of the 3 entries here that were due.

I have 3 choices for how to continue from here. The first option while I have immediately ruled out is doing the next 200 km section of the divide. I have ruled this out as it is entirely without resupply. This is stupid for me given how much water I am going through. The 2nd option is to take Highway 1 for a couple of days. Some people have given out about this road saying there is no hard shoulder. The 3rd option is to take a bus down the highway.

Have decided that option 2 is what I am going with. I have cycled on a little bit of highway 1 today when I skipped 20kms of the Baja divide. Given I am used to drivers in the USA, these roads while without hard sholder, are pretty quite and the drivers seem quite respectful. So option 2 is the plan for the next few days.
