Day 68: Gotta catch 'em all - Pokemon

Lots of barking dogs last night. This seems to be the biggest disadvantage to camping so close to Mexican civilization.
After packing up and getting caffeinated at the restaurant, I was on the road again.
The first couple of hours were mentally taken up with some entertaining thoughts. Was thinking about the viral game from a few years ago called “Pokemon Go”, where you walk around your neighborhood in the real world catching Pokemon in some augmented reality world shown to you via your phone. I have never played this game but I seriously entertained the idea of pivoting this journal to a pokemon themed cycle trip, just for the laughs and the sheer absurdity of it. It would also give the most stupid answer to the question “why are you doing such a cycle trip”… Well.. “I gotta catch them all!” 😂 And then I could tell you all about how I caught a Pikachu outside of Oaxaca or that my Magikarp evolved into a Gyarados after fighting some wild Bulbasaur at the side of the road or other such gibberish.
Such silly stupid daydreaming kept me entertained for a couple of hours. Yes I am easily entertained. 😂
Cycling today was good and relaxed. Tho the roads were very long and very straight. About 85 km today. Successfully passed 2 Military checkpoints today. The first one was more proper with army personnel with big guns. They asked me where I am from. I say in Spanish “I with bike with La Paz”. They look at me weirdly and wave me on. Fuck, my Spanish needs a lot of work.
Also crossed my first Mexican state today. I have finished in “Baja California” and am now entering “Baja California Sur”.
Campground tonight is 200 pesos. Fiona is here too and met another bike tourer called Jan from the Netherlands (IIRC) who is also cycling to Argentina.
I am feeling the need for a couple of rest days. So I will hang out here for at least a day or so. Also considering leaving my bike somewhere and doing something else for a couple of days. But this is to be decided.
