Day 75: Mulege

Cycling today was normal highway 1 cycling. Did some Spanish with Paul until coverage became patchy after which YouTube Music provided a couple of hours worth of entertainment in the form of old school rock music.
Arrived in Mulege after about 62 kms. Found the BajaPack store which had the parcel containing my new tire and spare derailleur hanger. Then checked into a cheap 500 pesos/night hotel.
Met Marcus (from NZ) and Lars (from Germany) both of whom I had met and cycled with previously as well as a couple from Washington state and went for fish tacos and drinks. Briefly I ran into 4 other bike packers here. There are many bike people in this town!
Will probably take a zero day here tomorrow. After that I have a couple of options. First is to continue on highway 1. The other option is go back on the Baja Divide meaning taking a boat to some small peninsula (on the peninsula) and cycle down this. Will be a day or so and very remote. Will make this decision tomorrow.
The 60 km to 75 km days lately on highway 1 have almost felt lazy. At 18ish km/h it is less than 4 hours at what can feel like a mostly walking pace. Maybe I need to start thinking about doing more distance.
Also need to start thinking about where to spend Christmas. I will probably take some time off in La Paz and Mazatlan as together they are a kind of a milestone of finishing the Baja peninsula. But I guess I will be there in a week or so, so I need to figure out somewhere further along to spend Christmas. Guess it will depend on my route in mainland Mexico which I also haven’t thought much about yet either.
