Day 76: Rest day and the Mexican Fisherman

Went to a fish taco place and left my bag behind. Only realized a couple of hours later. That now lost bag contains my passport so I was a little panicked but they still had it when I returned.

I Went to the beach with some of the cyclists here and had another round of fish tacos.

Was nearly 5pm when I got back and still hadn’t done the only thing I was supposed to do today. Change my tire. Current rear tire is properly bald so I got a new one shipped and collected it yesterday. Never changed a tubeless tire before but was secretly confident. Just need to take off the old one, put on the new one and pump it up. However I had a very hard time getting the tire to pop/seal in place, not least because my pump is shit so I couldn’t get enough pressure into it quickly enough. Eventually asked another biker for advice and they suggested going to the gas station and using their compressed air thingy. Fiona graciously provided the needed attachment and it worked a charm. I didn’t know this little piece of metal was so useful so I will buy one in the next big town. Also I have used a whole bottle of sealant when messing with the tire so had to put another bottle in after I got it to seal meaning I am also out of sealant.

Then went for a couple of drinks. Met a local Mexican fisherman who is the exact mental image I have of that Mexican from that famous parable of the Mexican Fisherman. Great read if you haven’t come across this story before (e.g: https://bemorewithless.com/the-story-of-the-mexican-fisherman/). He fishes most days but only to catch no more than 5 fish. A couple for himself and the rest to give for free to his friends and family. He spoke of the enemy that the mind can be and was totally against the idea of thinking. A super interesting guy.

Tomorrow I cycle.
